As every photographer knows it's always about the light. This is a random collection of unexpected images and occasional thoughts sprinkled in for good measure.

ANYWHERE
As I was driving along a well traveled Long Island thoroughfare today littered with the usual commercial and industrial stuff--chain stores, body shops and billboards, suddenly this lovely fence with climbing roses jumped out at me. I was so stunned to see this bucolic scene that I had to hit the brakes and jump out to make a picture. The fence and roses seemed so out of place as though they had lost their way or belonged to a different era. At the same time it seemed to be such a universal scene, so Anywhere, USA; but just not here on this heavily travelled Long Island artery. The picture is simple, but where I found it filled me with contradictions and made me think of a lost era and a lost part of Long Island-- the Long Island of my youth.
